Myself and Fozz have discussed promotion (or not taking the option), from the Northern League to the Northern Premier League a few times now.
Obviously we don't know the ins and outs of every club, but I wonder if the needing to be 'financial and stable' line, is too cushy a line to move away from?
Some of the teams put together in the NL, is of a very good standard. However, rather than take on the challenge of promotion, a winning team is often left to stagnate in the NL. The players move on and another team pushes to the fore.
As this is another 'off the cuff' piece, I haven't been able to garnish it with stats and the like. If anyone has them, then please feel free to share.
I asked the question of promotion to Consett AFC, in the aftermath of their FA Cup defeat to the higher placed Bradford PA. The response from Consett was standard -
But, seeing the facilities they have up there and knowing they make money by hiring out their pitch to youth leagues - hopefully a good league position, is matched up by the state of the accounts.
I would love teams to take up the promotion offer. I am sure players would too!
