It has been an interesting start for Gateshead. A heavy defeat to Tranmere, coupled with some plucky performances.
The tactics and build up have changed considerably. It will be interesting to see how the team progresses over the year.

Hoping Gateshead can make progress, the play-off season was amzaing, I would imagine Gateshead have a similar problem to the likes of Sunderland, it is hard to attract decent players to the area conpared to the bright lights of Manchester, London or Birmingham.
I noticed crowd numbers have dropped again, after the momentum of the run to Wembley, I thought they might have peaked and levelled out.
Hopefully Malcolm Crosby can achieve something this year

Another good win for the heed. A clean sheet and a brace for Johnson.
Quick turn around, before a game on Monday.
Any thoughts?

However, it is Gary Mills return the International Stadium, which is the main talking point. It will be interesting to say the least!

A few days late with this, but thought it was worth doing an 'off the cuff' piece on the sacking of Crosby and Owers.
I must admit to being surprised by the appointments of the duo - who both have limited managerial experience. Lots of coaching/scouting knowledge, but lacking the day to day experience of managing a squad. Owers has managed Bath, Forest Green and Weston Super Mare with mixed success - leaving Weston in 2007. Crosby had his moment in the spotlight back in the early 90's with Sunderland and apart from the infamous game in charge of Birmingham last season, hadn't done anything in a sole managerial capacity, other than a few spells in a caretaker role and some short term assistant-manager jobs.
The players that have been brought to the club ahead of the 15/16 season, were of a decent standard. More importantly, the majority had links to the area - something I felt was lacking last year under the stewardship of Gary Mills. I am not saying the entire team needs to have that connection, but there needs to be a core. Players who can galvanise others and explain the ideology of playing for a working class team, from the North East. I think a lot of our professional clubs would be better off, with the purchase or development of local, quality players and developing the spine of the team, with that.
Despite a hammering at home to Tranmere early on, performances and results were steady. Indeed the club could have gone top of the Vanarama at one point. Since then, results and performances have slid on an ever growing downward spiral. The position in the table as only gone in one direction too. The defeat to Halifax was the final straw. How can a team supposedly challenging for promotion, be defeated at home, by a team fighting relegation and down to 10 men?
According to reports, the players liked Crosby and enjoyed playing for him. So why have things gone wrong? Why so quickly?
One thing is for sure, the Gateshead owners need to get their heads down (which I am sure they are doing) and appoint someone who can turn the season around. Otherwise yet another season full of optimism will fade out and blend into the disappointment of last season.
